A National Government employee living with disability can finally enjoy the personal guide allowance, thanks to the intervention of the Commission in a case of delay in the payment of the allowance.
According to Ms. Stella Nyasinga, she is a deaf Senior Support staff working at the County Commissioner’s Office in Nakuru County and is eligible for the personal guide allowance as set out in the Circular by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission dated 26th August 2019. She had previously made a request for the allowance but she has not been paid since her appointment in September 2019.
The delay in payment of the allowance prompted her to lodge a complaint with the Commission on 24th February 2021 to have the personal guides allowance and the arrears owed paid to her.
The Commission took up the matter with the County Commissioner, Nakuru on 3rd March 2021 who in turn wrote a letter to the Director Resource Management, Ministry of Interior and Citizen Services on behalf of Ms. Nyasinga requesting the office to help her get remuneration for a personal guide allowance for public officers living with disability.
The County Commissioner in a letter to the Commission on 25th June 2021 Commission confirmed that Ms. Nyasinga was paid the personal guide allowance with effect from April 2021. Further, he attached the April and May 2021 pay slips to confirm the payment.
