When he applied for his home to be connected with electricity, Mr. Alfred Katana did not know that it was going to be the genesis of unending trips to the Kenya Power offices.
According to Mr. Katana, he made an application to Kenya Power, Kilifi office, for power connection to his home in Ngoloko Village, Kilifi County, on 3rd July 2018. The Kenya Power technicians visited his home and issued him with a quotation of Kshs. 24,898, an amount which he paid on 7th July 2018 at Kenya Power, Nyali office.
However, on 13th August 2018, technicians from Kenya Power again visited the home with the intention to connect the power, but instead called him and informed him that they could not connect the same because the line was illegal. Due to the frustration he was facing in pursuing the matter, he requested the company for a refund of the money he paid as connection fee but the refund was not forthcoming.
“I felt aggrieved since my application for power connection could not be processed and at the same time the money I paid was not being refunded,” he lamented. The continued suffering pushed him to lodge a complaint with the Commission in October 2019.
The Commission by way of inquiry took up the issue with Kenya Power management on 20th October 2019 leading to refund of Ksh. 24,898. Mr. Katana confirmed receipt of the money.
Mr. Katana expressed his gratitude for the Commission’s intervention.
“I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to your office for the…assistance accorded to me over my grievance against Kenya Power, I believed in your office and that is why I turned to you for assistance. May God bless you all for your prompt response, feedback and the ability to inquire on my behalf,” he wrote in an appreciation email.
