The Commission has today launched its Second Strategic Plan (2019-2023) during a ceremony held in Nairobi.
Speaking during the event, the Commission Chairperson, Hon. Florence Kajuju, made a commitment that the Commission will fully implement the Plan and called upon the government, specifically Parliament and the National Treasury, and development partners to assist the Commission in implementing the document so as to meet the expectations of Kenyans.
On his part, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Justin Muturi, urged the Commission to ensure that the Plan is fully implemented for the benefit of Kenyans since the Commission is the people’s watchdog. He said as part of its oversight mandate, the National Assembly will commit annual reports from Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices (CCIOs) to relevant departmental committees for further scrutiny and accountability for resources allocated to each agency.
Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Hon. Aden Duale, challenged CCIOs to assert their independence in carrying out their mandates for the benefit of the public.
The Second Strategic Plan, for the period 2019 – 2023, articulates the vision, mission, core values and the strategies that will guide the Commission towards the realisation of its mandate for the next five years. The plan is aligned to Kenya’s Vision 2030, the Third Medium Term Plan, the Big Four Agenda and various government policy documents.
The Plan has four Strategic Results Areas(SRAs) which have been identified to form the focus pillars upon which results will be pursued and measured. The four SRAs are Resolution of Public Complaints; Oversight and Enforcement of Access to Information; Public Education, Awareness and Visibility; and Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building.
