The Commission Chairperson, Hon Florence Kajuju, led a team comprising of the Commissioner in Charge of Access to Information, Ms Lucy Ndung’u, and the secretariat staff during a courtesy call on Laikipia Governor, H.E. Ndiritu Muriithi.
The Governor expressed his appreciation for the support the Commission had extended to the county in training its officers on complaints management and on Access to Information Act, 2016, and undertook to domesticate the Access to Information Act as per Section 96 (3) of the County Governments’ Act and its policy framework within the agreed timelines.
On her part, Hon Kajuju undertook that the Commission will support the county in the drafting and review of the Laikipia County Access to Information Bill, 2019, mainstreaming of Access to Information in all country operations, and review of the Laikipia County Government public engagement and information sharing platforms.
In the spirit of devolution, the Commission will open an office in Laikipia County to take its services closer to the people. The team later proceed to the closing session of the Laikipia County Rapid Action Plan on Prevention of Extremism and Counter Terrorism which was hosted by the Laikipia County Commissioner, Mr. Oneismus Kyatha.
