A complainant, Janet (not her real name), finally got justice following the arrest and subsequent charging in court of a perpetrator in a complaint lodged with the Commission on her behalf by the Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN).
According to Ms. Janet, she was harassed and insulted on several occasions and on three occasions, she reported the matter to Jogoo Road Police Station and Makongeni Police Station. However, the Officer Commanding Stations failed to investigate, arrest and charge the suspect who was well- known to the police officers who allegedly often received bribes from him.
The Commission, by way of inquiry, took up the matter with the County Police Commander, Nairobi County, which led to the arrest and charging of the perpetrator under the Section 94 of the Penal Code (offensive conduct leading to breach of peace).
KELIN expressed their gratitude for the Commission’s intervention.
“We are happy to inform you that following the intervention of your good office, the perpetrator was arrested and charged. The matter was concluded and the perpetrator was ordered to compensate our client.”
