A complainant, Ken (not his real name), can now hopefully secure a job after his police records were updated giving him a clean bill of health. Ken was charged with a criminal offence in 2007 but was later acquitted under Section 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The clearance was, however, not communicated to Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Headquarters hence the case remained outstanding on record. He was not aware.
In 2016, he applied for a police clearance certificate to aid his job search. A police clearance certificate is almost often a must have in the security field. He was issued with a Police Clearance Certificate, REF: 481412/2016, which stated there was an outstanding criminal case on record prompting him to lodge a complaint with the Commission.
The Commission made an inquiry to Parklands Police Station that had booked Ken. The Station in turn wrote to DCI advising on the status of the matter. At this point, Ken was sure that the problem had been sorted so he applied for another certificate. The clearance certificate he was issued on 28th December 2018, yet again, indicated that he had an outstanding criminal case.
The Commission took up the matter with DCI and his records were finally updated. Ken now has a police clearance certificate issued in February 2019. And this time, the certificate has no pending criminal charges.
