As part of implementation of the Access to Information law, the Commission has rolled out a training programme for County Officers in all the 47 County Governments.
The two-day training workshops, carried out on 13th & 14th March, 2018, were focused on enhancing the capacity of the County Secretaries, County Assembly Clerks and County Chief Officers in charge of information so far as it relates to access to information by citizens.
The training workshops were conducted in four venues in four counties, namely; Uasin Gishu, Embu, Kwale, and Vihiga.
The trainings on access to information law was carried out with the support of the Agile Harmonized Assistance for Devolved Institutions (AHADI)-a USAID-funded non-governmental organisation.
Parliament enacted the Access to Information Act which came into operation on 21st September, 2016. This law provides the necessary framework and mechanisms for operationalisation of the right of access to information guaranteed under Article 35 of the Constitution.
Under this law, the Commission is the oversight agency for right of access to information.
